The Expendables (2010) - Review

Plot : A team of mercenaries head to South America on a mission to overthrow a dictator.

Review : When I heard that this film was getting made, I was very happy to hear the cast...granted even if some of them only were to get cameo parts. Since watching Rambo 4 and Rocky Balboa, I knew that this would either be great or just ok....I was hoping for the later.

The film has a good cast list, even if some only show for less then 5mins but it was nice to see. The look of the film is very 80's in style, even to the way they filmed it which was interesting to see.

The plot line is well just there and no more, it probably counts for only 1% of the film so if your hoping for a great plot, character developments etc then this is not the film for you. On the action side this is where Stallone knows what you want, its loaded with explosions left right and center. The sets looks great and blend very well together, for me the best part was the airplane assault of the pier where it started small and builds up to be over the top but a great WOOOHOOO moment.

Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger's parts are very small, so if they do a sequel I hope they get bigger roles and roles that include some action.

Part of me was disappointed with this film as I would have loved for there to be more of a plot, similar to Rambo 4 but then again it was loaded with so much action, explosions I can forgive it.

Overall what the film lacks in plot, it makes up in loud sounds, explosions, great action scenes.

Salt (2010) - Review

Plot : A CIA agent goes on the run after a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy.

Review : I heard nothing about this film, so I watched it with an open mind.

The film started off a little slow for me, but then they slowly did build up the pace.

There was nothing in the film for me that made me feel anything for any of the characters, so I didn't really care if this guy died or got shot which I dont like as I do like to feel a little something for characters as that means I was getting in to the film.

The action was just ok, there was nothing in the film that was a wow factor or anything you havent seen before. The acting was good, again nothing too special.

I didnt feel I was getting in to this film, if it was a DVD i wouldnt have minded pausing it and coming back to continue another night which isnt that good as I would prefere to enjoy a film that I would like to see the ending there and then.

Overall it was ok, it wasnt a bad film but it wasnt a good film...would I recommend this? yes only if there is nothing else on in the cinema that you fancy.

Furry Vengeance (2010) - Review

Plot : In the Oregon wilderness, a real estate developer's new housing subdivision faces a unique group of protesters, local woodland creatures who don't want their homes disturbed.

Review : WTF and a waste of time.....this is what I was thinking after watching this.

The film tries to blend CGI animals and real life actors & scenes together, but for some reason it completely fails and they stand out like a sore thumb.

The comic attempts at the animals trying to be funny, was just very poor and i think unless your maybe aged 2 to 4 you will not find any of this funny.

This film could have been a good comedy, if it didn't have these cheesy FX and comic moments and rather had a serious film with funny scenes done by the actors and not the animals leaving them as real animals.

At points throughout the movie you think "did they run out of plot ideas" as they either repeat the joke over and over right after the other.

Overall this is not a good film and I would recommend that you pass on this one.

The Karate Kid (2010) - Review

Plot : Work causes a single mother to move to China with her young son; in his new home, the boy embraces kung fu, taught to him by a master.

Review : I was a big fan of the original and even the Next Karate Kid, so I was interested to see how they would modernise this and if they would change it loads of stick to a similar plot.

The film has a great look, and has really beautiful cinematography and excellent fight choreography.

The film as a whole sticks to the same plot as the original, only with a few small changes so this was very nice to see. Depending on how big a fan of the originals you were, you will notice that a lot of the scenes were filmed very close to the way they were in the originals even the high kick scene.

Jackie Chan was really good in this, and I am glad that they gave him a serious role as most American films he is in you dont get to see his acting side which is great...take a look at New Police Story his acting is amazing in that...so it was good to see he got a chance to act.

I would have liked to have seen Jackie do more martial arts in this than he did, but thats just me.

Jaden plays his role very well, the whole time watching the film I swear I was looking at a mini Will Smith...some of the mannerisms were just like looking at his dad. For not being in many films, his acting was very good and you could believe him from start to finish.

Overall the film was a really nice surprise, that it was very well done, the acting from everyone was very good and believable and the fact that they filmed a few scenes just like the original ones. I would recommend this film, to fans of the original and everyone. I am looking forward to seeing the sequels.

The A-Team (2010) - Review

Plot : A group of Iraq War veterans looks to clear their name with the U.S. military, who suspect the four men of committing a crime for which they were framed.

Review : I used to watch The A-Team a lot when I was younger, I had a lot of the toys and anything else that they brought out. When I heard that they were making this, I cringed as most TV to movie productions really change the feel of the original, they also make too many changes to the character, themes etc etc

When the film started and heard the theme, saw the van I knew this would be a TV to movie production of the A-Team.

The film had everything you loved about the TV show, the puns, the van, the jokes and yes they do actually make things just like they did in the TV show which was great as it wouldn't have been the same with out these small details.

The scene I loved the most in the film was the one that was way over the top, it was the tank falling from the sky. I was smiling and laughing from start to end of this scene.

It was a shame that none of the original actors (that are still alive) had any cameo's, as it would have been nice but these guys pull off the characters very well.

Overall from start to finish the film is a lot of fun to watch, and you will sit there with a smile on your face from start to end. Granted some parts are cheesy, or way over the top but for some reason it works and its great. I would recommend this to everyone even the die hard fans of the original.

Bring on A-Team 2!!
